Where would you go?

If spending the next five months in England with Tom
wasn't exciting enough, we are also planning
on going on a few trips while i'm there.

These will most likely be small trips
to amazing places.

We like to stay on the cheap because well..
we've got lot's of expensive things going on.

When we go on a trip it will probably
only be for a few days, enough time to see the sights
and get back in time for Tom to go to work.

We're definitely thinking Paris,
We've both been there, we both enjoyed it
and so we think it would be a sweet spot
to head back to together.

We've also discussed a trip to Germany.
I'd LOVE to travel to all of the different castles in Germany.
And Germany was one of Tom's favorite places when he
backpacked through Europe a few years ago.

And this one isn't one i've talked over with Tom
but i've always had a fascination with Amsterdam.
It just seems like the cutest town.
I'd love to go there.

Truth is i'd love to go to a lot of places, problem is money.
But that's not really a problem at all because
even if we weren't able to afford any of these places
we're still in the UK and the UK has TONS to offer.

So what are some amazing yet affordable places that you have visited
in Europe or the UK that you would suggest we look into??
Leave a comment and share your favorite places!! :)

  1. Spain! Super fun atmosphere, awesome sites and shops, and more of a departure for UK/Germany/Amsterdam, and even France. Plus its cheaper than Italy. And the weather is amazing in spring. I love both Madrid and Barcelona. That would be my cheap(er) rec! (Though Italy is also awesome, and very romantic ;)

  2. Hi Emily,
I haven't been following your blog for long but when I read today that you might be planning a trip to Germany (that's my home) I thought I needed to share some recommendations.
I know Americans fascination with castles and I do admit we do have some great ones (I'm originally from the South of Germany where you can find all those fairytale castles everywhere) but if I were you I would come to Berlin for a long weekend and enjoy the vibe of the city. There is a lot of German history to discover here, it's a wonderful city to explore (every neighborhood is different and offers lots of great food, art, shopping, history...), although it's the capital it's not crazy expensive and if you want you can take a day trop to Potsdam to explore the castles there. By that you would get the best of both worlds :) Whatever you decide I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in Europe and any trip you end up taking will be special no matter where you go!
    Greetings from Germany, Kristina

  3. The UK has so much to offer.
Brighton is a great beach town and is known as the San Francisco of England (same weather - so I use "beach town" lightly).
I did a road trip from Brighton to Edinburgh. We did it in about two days, but 3-4 would allow for more stops.
The Angel of the North is beautiful.

Ryan Air for the win for flights to Ireland.
Easy Air for a couple of other places.

Amsterdam is beautiful. You can rent little boats for 4 hours (has a small motor) and dock it at different cafes - way better than piling on a tourist boat. The name of the company was Boaty Boats (seriously). It was windy and pretty much sideways rain when I did it, and it was still a blast.

If you're looking for a way to stay and work in the country (beyond your tourist time) BUNAC was great for my volunteer abroad (My original plan was to work abroad in England with BUNAC...but life happens, I ended up in Cambodia). BUNAC was what I needed to volunteer - insurance, set up with a work site, introduction tour, and housing. Im not sure where it ranks for working abroad, but I think it's worth the look.

All and all, you are adorable and remind me of myself at 22. Live it up and enjoy the ride - thanks for letting us go along with you. :)
